We are delighted to have teamed up with Clare Catchpole and Mini First Aid and will be working with them over the next few months.
Here is a wonderful story from Clare how their training stopped a scald scarring Archies’s ankles.
Burns & Scalds.
Laura Chambers, 30, is a part-time estate agent. She lives in with her partner, Sam, 30, a joiner, and their son, Archie, 20 months. She says:
We were in a cafe on a break in the Lake District last month when Archie pulled a cup of coffee over and the hot drink scalded his legs.
You never think something like that will happen to you, and had it happened two weeks earlier, I’d have frozen in panic, looking for someone to help me.
Fortunately, a week before the accident I’d been to a mini first aid class in where I’d learned basics such as CPR and how to treat burns.
I’d nipped to the bathroom after ordering drinks, and my partner, Sam, had taken our drinks and Archie to a table outside.
When I returned a minute later, I found Archie screaming and Sam had jumped out of his seat.
I knew immediately what had happened, and grabbed Archie and ran to the bathroom. I yelled to Sam to bring the nappy bag as I had packed a simple first aid kit.
I got him under the water with all his clothes on for a bit before I tried to take his clothes off.
I learned on the course that if it’s a bad burn the clothes will be stuck to it, so taking them off can take the skin off too.
I got his legs under the cold water for a while before I tried to take his trousers off.
Thankfully his trousers had protected most of his legs. But his ankles had been exposed and were red and swollen. I put Archie’s legs back under the cold water.
He was being sick and screaming in pain but I was surprisingly composed as I tried to calm him.
I kept Archie under the cold water for about 20 minutes, while Sam went to get the car to take him to hospital.
When Sam arrived, I took Archie out of the sink, applied burn gel on his ankles and covered them loosely in cling film.
I’d learned that it was important to keep the burn clean, so I asked the cafe staff for the cling film — they looked a bit confused. Then we got him in the car; this all happened within half an hour of the coffee being spilt.
A 40-minute journey to the hospital seemed so long — I remained calm but Archie was crying and I had to stop him touching his legs. When we got to the hospital, Archie had calmed down.
The nurses checked his ankles, which were still red, but they said I’d done all the right things. Cooling the skin had really helped and he didn’t need to be admitted.
Archie’s burn covered a 5cm diameter on both ankles.
They bandaged him up and we were told to come back every 48 hours to check the wound.
A week later, they took the bandages off and Archie has healed incredibly well.
Hospital staff said that everything I’d done had helped prevent scarring. It was only after we’d come out of the hospital that first time that I broke down in tears, the emotion of it hitting me. But I’m so thankful I took that first aid course.
I’d seen an advert on Facebook that it was taking place at the local church and it was only £20 for a two-hour course. I’d always wanted to do one, but when I checked they were always too expensive.
I don’t like to think what would have happened if I hadn’t done it. The hospital staff said that by keeping him under the cold water for 20 minutes, I’d ensured the burn hadn’t gone into the deeper layers of the skin.
And now the skin looks normal and Archie is toddling about, happy as ever. treating burns and scalds
Burns and scalds are damage to the skin caused by heat. A burn is usually caused by dry heat, such as from the sun or hot iron. A scald is caused by wet heat, such as steam or a hot cup of tea.
One of the most common causes of burns in children is accidentally scalding themselves with a hot drink. This can be very serious for a very young child because of the relative size of the surface area involved.
What an amazing experience I had. I came away feeling confident and delighted with my photographs. I was made to feel special through the whole experience and would thoroughly recommend anyone to do this.

This is a question we get asked many times, so here is the answer…
Our studio is based in Horsforth, which is in the north west of Leeds. You’ll be pleased to hear that finding us couldn’t be easier and we even have our own free parking.
If you’re lucky enough to have your own transport (or a chauffeur!), simply pop our postcode into your SatNav and let them do all the work. Keep a look out for us: we’re just off the roundabout on Station Road and next to the Queen’s Arms pub. We’re really easy to spot being just on the corner, with our bright Mark Swinford sign and welcoming window display.
We are aware that travelling via public transport can be a little stressful at times but have no fear! We have a bus stop directly opposite our front door, with multiple, regular services from Leeds City Centre. The 97 and 50A are the quickest routes in from the city, both can be caught on the Headrow and take roughly 30 minutes, though please do allow a little extra time – just in case. If you want a few more details about the bus routes or if you’re visiting from out of town, check out www.wymetro.com and take advantage of their stress-free journey planner with up to date schedules and timings.
If the bus isn’t for you, we are also just a few minutes walk from Horsforth train station, with regular services to and from Leeds, and from there you can link to anywhere! For a full list of train times, you can visit www.thetrainline.com to plan your journey and book tickets.
If all else fails, we even have a local airport (though I’m sure you can find a sunnier destination than Horsforth!) – keep an eye out for the planes flying over!
And remember, if you do come across any issues finding us, just pick up the phone, give us a call, 0113 259 1161 and we’ll be happy to direct you! We look forward to your arrival!
Why photography studios charge a refundable deposit with bookings.
This is a question that gets asked many times and sometimes can frustrate people when booking sessions and appointments with a photographic studio.
I’ll do my best to explain why photographic studios ask for a refundable deposit, and what you need to do to make sure you get your deposit back.
The deposit required to reserve time in our diary is:
£20 for family, baby and children’s portraits (1-hour commitment)
£30 for Boudoirs, Makeovers and Mini Model Makeovers ( 2-3 hours commitment)
We ask for a minimum of 7 working days notice to change a session or viewing presentation wherever possible so we can offer that time to someone else.
If you give us less than 5 working days notice, we will be unable to refill that slot in our diaries, and you will lose your deposit. We hope you agree this is only fair and decent.
As long as you attend your appointment your deposit will be fully refunded to you at your viewing presentation. It is purely so we can plan ahead, have the right people ready for the appointment and give the best experience possible.
When the client makes a booking into the diary, the studio will dedicate the people & resources required to those times to make sure the client’s experience is perfect.
Diaries are usually booked several weeks in advance. This represents a huge commitment to time, staff resources and equipment/studio space that is required for that appointment. Sadly if someone fails to attend that slot or cancels without giving much notice it is impossible to re-fill that time in the diary.
Any appointments that do not take place are times that someone else would have loved to attend and have their images created or viewed so please be mindful of them and help us offer them an excellent service too.

If you would like to experiment with a new look, or simply celebrate the person that you have become and document it in a portrait, why not consider having a boudoir photoshoot or a professional makeover and photoshoot
A professional photoshoot is the ideal way to keep a permanent memento of your landmark moments, special events, and those other times in your life when you look and feel good, and want to let the whole world know!
Whether you’re looking to treat yourself or someone special to a feel-good makeover and photoshoot or a boudoir portrait session, read on for some suggestions.
Boudoir photography is an excellent way of capturing your femininity in image form, whilst still leaving plenty to the imagination. Boudoir photography is soft and shamelessly sensual without ever being explicit or overtly sexualised, and boudoir portraits can make a fabulous gift for your partner, or for yourself if you want to boost your self-esteem and learn to see yourself in your best light!
Makeover photoshoots are fun to take part in, and provide memories that will last forever! Whether you simply want to document your life’s journey with a timeless image of you looking your best or if it’s time for a change and you’re keen to try something new, a makeover photoshoot is the perfect way to do this. Landmark birthday? Just divorced and ready to celebrate? Celebrate it with a photoshoot!
Beauty is not something that can be defined by the narrow margins of age or size, and every woman has their own unique, natural beauty that is just waiting to be highlighted and brought to the fore. A special photoshoot just for you can help you to see yourself in a new light and help to boost your self-confidence – all things that every woman deserves.
A good photographer will bring out all of your best features, whilst ensuring that you feel comfortable throughout the shoot, happy about the day, and pleased with the images that you receive at the end of it!
